In Dante's Inferno, hell is described as a frozen lake. Freezing cold was the justified punishment for betrayal for Dante. 

In fact, the same regions of the brain become active in social cold as in physical cold. If you feel rejected or denied, if you can, take a trip to the sauna or infrared cabin. Otherwise, a hot bath or hot soup will do. If you feel chilled it will help to restore your well-being.
